1. Going to the gym whenever you like

Imagine not having to fight your way onto the treadmill with the 6pm crowd? Being a student means going to the gym whenever you like — between classes, after 10am — you get to go when everyone else is at work. You’ll have your pick of the equipment and can sing along to your workout tracks as loud as you like without the judgemental looks.

2. Discounts galore

It’s almost worth doing a second degree just to keep the discounts rolling — everything is cheaper as a student and the discounts are hard to say goodbye to: transport, movies, ASOS, Apple, international travel, flights and more. This is one to miss once you graduate!

3. A four month summer break

8. Studying where you like

As a uni student, you get to choose where you do your study — after five years of secondary school rules, this type of freedom is highly liberating. You can study at the beach, in a park sitting on the grass, or inside the beautiful and inspiring State Library. Changing your study location regularly can also assist with better retention, according to a New York Times article.

9. Having the time and energy for your hobbies

Beer drinking isn’t considered a hobby in this instance; we’re talking real hobbies like ice sculpting, stone skipping and extreme ironing (yes, they’re actual hobbies). Embrace your weird and wonderful pastimes while you can — you’ll never be able to indulge in them as much as you can while you’re a full time student.

10. Being surrounded by ‘your’ people

At university, within your specific course, you’re be surrounded by people with similar interests and backgrounds and goals. This is a very comfortable pocket to sit in for a couple of years before you go out into the big, bad world.
