Year nine students at select entry Mac. Robertson Girls’ High have been shifted to a nearby primary school for their classes after the school was vandalised at the weekend.

Two open tours scheduled for today and next Friday also have been cancelled as the unspecified damage to the elite Kings Way government school is repaired.

Over the weekend, a person was caught by a rookie police dog Bruce, after having allegedly broken into the school.

“Year 9 classes have been moved to South Melbourne Park Primary School for the remainder of the week while repairs to buildings take place,” a Department of Education and Training spokesman said.

“The school’s open days scheduled for this and next week have been postponed. The school will notify its community when the scheduling for the open days is finalised.”

The department has not outlined the damage which is still be assessed.

It will pay for immediate repairs.

As of yesterday, the school was advertising a rescheduled tour on April 4, adding to tours already planned for late April and early May.

Families are lining up to get into the elite government school ahead of the entrance exam for Year nine entry in 2020. Mac. Rob consistently is in the top VCE performers.

Hundreds of year eights will sit the exam in June in the hope of scoring one of 225 spots in 2020.

Assistant principal Ms Anne Stout was last week appointed to the role as principal, replacing Dr Toni Meath who has moved to Melbourne Girls’ Grammar School.

There are 4000 select entry places at four schools including Mac. Rob, Melbourne High, Suzanne Cory and Nossal high schools, with 56 per cent of places for boys.

The four schools are not permitted to take more than five per cent from one school but often candidates are accepted beyond the five per cent under the principal’s discretion clause.
