Police dog Bruce sniffs out alleged school burglar
An intruder who allegedly broke into a top Melbourne school has been felled by a rookie police dog who sniffed him out in a stairwell and lunged when the accused burglar attempted to flee.

A rookie police dog has sunk his teeth into a fleeing burglar at a Melbourne school after the man threatened the new furry recruit and his handler with a knife.
Police were called to The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School on Kings Way about 11.45pm last night, after reports of an intruder inside the building.
Police say Bruce the dog sniffed out and cornered the fleeing man in a stairwell.

The cornered man produced a knife and threatened Bruce and his handler before attempting to escape.
But Bruce, who was on his first assignment, chased him down and bit him on the leg, leaving him with a non-life threatening injury.
A South Melbourne man, 25, is charged with several burglary-related crimes and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
