THEY’RE the portrait of family bliss PR queen Roxy Jacenko never dreamt would happen again.
Taken at Pixie’s 6th Birthday ballerina party at the weekend at Alexandria play centre Nubo, these exclusive family snaps show a healed family after a year of pain; mum and dad, Oliver Curtis, 32, holding hands with their pink tulle-tutued birthday girl with grinning son Hunter, 3, nestled on his mum’s hip.
Speaking exclusively to The Wentworth Courier, the PR dynamo has revealed there was no doubt she and her husband were on the brink of divorce, and that she held absolutely “no hope” their family unit would survive the “train wreck” of a year which saw her husband locked up at Cooma Correctional Facility, convicted for insider trading.
“I did not think there was any hope at all for us as a family.”
She has also opened up for the first time about the devastating impact the year had on her daughter.
“Realistically, I did not think there was any hope at all for us as a family, there was so much to get over and an incredible amount of water under the bridge,” the PR queen admitted candidly of her plans for divorce.
“But at the same time, when you see your children so happy and all of your sudden your life goes from being an absolute train wreck and there is someone who is willing to put everything aside, and be your number one no matter what challenges there are, well it’s something to hold on to as it’s not easy to find.”
The surprise renewed proposal from her husband of two years at The Four Seasons with gold balloons asking “Marry Me? Again”, blew Roxy, 37, away.
“It was not something I thought would happen at all — I was headed for divorce and stood very firm on that, but then you step back and realise, this person actually has my back and doesn’t simply pretend to, no matter what anyone else thinks — he is there.
“No matter what mistakes either of us have made, which were played out publicly, we put them in our pocket and moved on. He isn’t eaten up by what’s written about me (with most of it being rather creative), he lets me be me, he is happy for me to work hard and will do whatever he can to help me — he just wants his children and I to be happy.”
She adds: “Oli is a dream with the children, it was so hard for me on my own and I take my hat off to those who manage with kids on their own, it’s very very hard.”
Of that highly publicised moment where she and Oli were reunited in front of dozens of photographers upon his release, Roxy says she was a mixed bag of emotions, confused as to how she would feel upon laying eyes on the husband she had barely seen for a year. He was almost unrecognisable too, having spent his year behind bars beefing up.
“It was certainly interesting when Oli got on the plane at Snowy Mountains airport, I remember looking at him and going ‘wow — shit just got real’! There were about 30 cameras pointing in the windows, the kids were squealing and I was a little like a fish out of water not knowing what was going to happen! We were both terribly awkward!”
The pink and gold balloons, extravagant princess cake with gold tiara on top and bucket load of sparkle at Pixie’s extravagant party are enough for now, she says. No big wedding-take-two plans on the horizon any time soon.
“At this stage, there is no wedding, just an incredible new ring that my long-time friend Nicholas Haywood made in conjunction with Oli … Pixie’s Birthday was enough of an extravaganza to last me for now!”
The author and breast cancer survivor, says her daughter’s happiness since Oli’s return has been immeasurable.
“The effect that Oli’s incarceration had on Pixie was terrible, I knew it at the time, but I think I just tried to do anything to change it and almost look away so as not to upset her more about the situation,” she bravely admits.
“When he was released she became the Pixie she used to be, she has her smile back and she’s doing much better at school too — her teachers have even commented about how involved she is now, she became withdrawn and, at times, very challenging.
“She really coped well, considering one day her dad left for work and didn’t return for 12 months.”
Roxy reveals all about her marriage
She also says the business is thriving — despite recent attempts to maliciously vandalise the premises with paint bombs and other foul smelling substances which police have investigated — in typical Roxy fashion she makes a joke of the scenario.
“We have full time security now. Look it’s life, I don’t really let it bother me, and on the plus side I am an ambassador for Enjo cleaning products so at least I was well equipped to clean up the ‘shit’ — pardon the pun!
“Business is flying for us and no matter how much the perpetrator wants to damage my building its not going to stop me running my business. 2017 is set to be our best year yet. We are so happy with our premises at Paddington (a building I bought three years ago) and just completed a huge renovation with interior designer Blainey North.
“Our digital business, the Ministry of Talent, is going from strength to strength and Pixie’s hair bow business ‘Pixies Bows’ will hit The Baby and Toddler show for the first time in September.”
