FROM grocery boy to doctor to chairman – Ken Chapman has found a willingness to work hard and a positive attitude can take you anywhere.

Mr Chapman is now CEO of Skyrail-ITM, director of the Chapman Group and Event Hospitality and Entertainment Ltd and chairman of the FNQ Hospital Foundation. He is also director of ASX-listed Aquis Entertainment Ltd.

But a supermarket at Edge Hill was where you could find the 14-year-old each Saturday.

“Most of the time I used to pack the customers’ groceries ... and then carry them to the car for them,” Mr Chapman, 54, said.

“The girls got to work the register and the boys packed and carried the bags. I was just happy to have a job ...”

Mr Chapman also worked as a survey chainman while studying medicine.

“I found if you’re willing to work hard and have a good attitude then you will do well.”
