There is a first time for everything, and that includes some local footy milestones after South Barwon star forward Andrew Boseley realised a dream of his at the weekend.

The Swans had the league-wide GFL bye on Saturday, but that did not stop the sharp-shooting forward from pulling on a jersey and booting a bag of goals.

Boseley lined up at full forward for Wickliffe-Lake Bolac in the Mininera and District Football League, running out alongside his brothers James and Lachlan.

The key forward booted nine goals in a massive 28.16 (184) to 3.2 (20) victory over Lismore-Derrinallum, the club former Colac ruck Henry Walsh and ex-East Geelong’s Reuben Vesikuru play for.

South Barwon coach Mark Neeld said it was exciting for Boseley to play with his brothers for the first time.

“It was the perfect opportunity for the Boseley boys to get a run around together,” he said.

“He’s got a couple of brothers that he’s never been able to play with, so when he came to us and said it would mean a lot to him to get a chance to run around with them.

“When we’re talking community sport, it’s about a number of things, I think from our point of view the family will always be first, we all have careers away from sport that also come first, then it’s the sport that comes later.

“There will be things that arise that come first over sport, this is the sort of thing that would be pretty rare, so we were more than happy to let him go off and do it.”

The win helped propel Wickliffe-Lake Bolac to second on the ladder, while Lismore-Derrinallum remains outside of finals with two wins from seven games.

Boseley’s impressive haul was enough to hold onto 25th leading goal kicker for the season, despite playing up to eight games less than the league’s other forwards.

Neeld said there were no injury issues from the game, and Boseley was expected to line up against Bell Park on Saturday.

“Most people, when they have siblings that play the same sport and the opportunity presents itself to play alongside them, they’ll jump at the chance.

“I think it’s a fantastic thing for the family to get to do, they went and had a win and there were all smiles.

“He’s back at the club now and training and he’ll be right to go this weekend, but it was just a great opportunity for him.

“The timing was perfect.”
