A woman was run over by a stolen car and another carjacked at knifepoint during a terrifying rampage north of Adelaide, over which a man is facing serious charges.
The woman, identified as Kym, told 7NEWS she went under the car and between its wheels during the extraordinary ordeal.
She said she “honestly thought she was dead” when the stolen car barrelled towards her.
“I just started running … and I just look back and all I remember is thinking I’m going to fall over,” she said.
“I fell over and the car just went straight over on top of me and I was between the wheels luckily.”
She said she felt “very lucky” to be alive.
“I thought I was going to die,” she said. “I’m thankful I fell over because if I didn’t fall over, he would have hit me for sure.”
Kyal John Penhall, 33, of Two Wells made no application for bail when he appeared in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
He is facing 14 charges ranging from aggravated robbery, driving without due care, dangerous driving to escape police pursuit and acts to endanger life.
The drama began on Tuesday night when police went to a home on Nottle Rd, Gawler, investigating the robbery of a bubble tea shop at Munno Para Shopping Centre on Monday.
Mr Penhall allegedly stole about $500 from the shop, court documents show.
When they arrived around 7.45pm, a grey Nissan Pathfinder sped from the street, sparking a quick police pursuit before they lost sight of the car on Redbanks Rd.
Half an hour later, police received reports the same car was driving erratically into fences and gates on Ward Belt Rd, Ward Belt, about 49km north of Adelaide.
Mr Penhall allegedly drove erratically on through Dundas St, Gawler, before crashing into a parked car and fleeing the scene around 8.25pm.
Police were then called after a Nissan Pathfinder smashed into a fence on Turnbull Rd, Elizabeth Downs. Court documents allege Mr Penhall drove the Nissan over bushes “trying to hit” a woman hiding behind them and then left the scene about 8.30pm.
A vehicle matching that description then crashed into a parked Volkswagen at Elizabeth Rise Shopping Centre on Hamblynn Rd about 8.45pm.
A woman sitting inside the Volkswagen was not injured.
At 9.15pm, Mr Penhall allegedly threatened a woman at knifepoint before stealing her black Ford Territory at the Munno Para Shopping Centre carpark, telling her he “won’t hurt” her if she got out of the car.
Police found the Nissan Pathfinder abandoned in the nearby carpark, and PolAir quickly located the stolen Territory and tracked it to Bandiana Crescent, Elizabeth Downs.
Mr Penhall allegedly fled from the car into nearby yards, with patrols swarming the area and arresting him around 9.30pm.
Mr Penhall will next appear in court in April
