From Tiger Shark jaws displays to taxidermied cats in gowns, the showgrounds were transformed into a paradise for lovers of all things “strange and unusual.”
Adelaide hosted its first Oddities and Curiosity Expo on Saturday with thousands attending Wayville pavilion.
The debut of the two-day event saw a wide array of stalls featuring everything from preserved specimens to antiquities.
Co-owner Michelle Cozzaglio, 34, who hails from Oklahoma, was thrilled to kick off the expo’s Australian run in Adelaide.
“It’s been amazing,” she said.
“It’s so fun to be here and come to a new city and have people coming up to me and thanking me for coming.
“I already can’t wait to come back.”
The Adelaide show features over 100 vendors, all of which are Australian apart from one American.
It's a far cry from when Ms Cozzaglio started back in her hometown. Her first event in 2017 had just 20 vendors.
The event also hosted entomology classes, to help learn about insects, while other states also offered taxidermy and bug pinning classes.
But most importantly, the expo serves as a safe space for people of all curiosities to come together.
“It makes me super emotional (...) I wish when I was a kid that I had a place like this to go to,” Ms Cozzaglio said.
“It's a huge driving force as to why I continue to push it and make it bigger and bigger.
“You can connect with people that are like you, which is so special.”
