When wandering through our city streets are you left feeling lifted and full of the Christmas spirit? Or are the decorations around town leaving you uninspired and lacking in joy?

On Monday, the owner of a prestigious event co-ordination company slammed Adelaide city’s Christmas decorations, calling them “drab” and “years past its due date.”

Owner of Atmosphere Events, Sam Rice, described this year’s Christmas tree on Victoria Square and the Rundle Mall decorations as “uninspired”.

“Yeah, it does look povo, it really does,” he said.

The issue sparked a robust discussion on Advertiser.com.au and our social media pages while a poll found 83% of readers thought they were indeed ‘povo’.

DEFINITELY LOST THE MAGIC

Rebecca

Definitely lost the magic … wish we could do Christmas bigger and brighter like we used to. I remember the magic of the Magic Cave when I was little … now it’s just sparse and not magical at all. We need to take a leaf out of Belfast in Ireland’s … create some sparkle again

Julie

It might look great at night but who is in the city at night strolling around without getting attacked? Also, we might have the pageant, but what happened to the tinsel this year? The sparkle was missing, just like on this tree.

I know times are tough but that's awful

It looks povo, but definitely better than nothing at all! #firstworldproblems

Abbey

When Sydney has a pageant we can talk about who has a better tree 😅

@iamfazz2

Sometimes less is more, but really a 1st world problem folks!

@_thesweetgreek_

Our tree lights up with different artwork light installations. But seriously, there’s a lot more happening in the world than worrying about a tree right?

Trish

Well feel free to splash your own cash if you think it’s so drab

The chicken wire mesh on the Adelaide tree is a nice touch.
