Two teenagers have been arrested after police tracked a stolen car using an Apple AirTag device located in the vehicle.

Just after 6pm on Tuesday a man reported his Subaru Forester had been stolen from Verdun in the Adelaide Hills.

Fortunately, the victim had an AirTag inside and was able to follow the location of his car on his device and update police with its location.

An AirTag is an Apple tracking device designed to act as a personal object finder.

The car was tracked to Victoria Park and then into the city on Wakefield St before heading to War Memorial Dr in North Adelaide.

Police then saw the car pull over on Victoria Dr and two people exit.

The passenger, a 14-year-old boy from Woodside, was arrested while the driver made a run for it.

However, police dog Bandit quickly found the fleeing teen – a 14-year-old boy from Lenswood – after he surrendered to the dog and his handler.

Both boys were charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and breaching bail conditions.

They did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Wednesday, September 18.
