South Australians endured temperatures well over 30C overnight as the heat hung around hours after the sun went down.
The hot weather coupled with gusty winds will have the state on high alert with an extreme fire danger alert in place on Monday.
Adelaide is set for a top of 35C on Monday after the mercury only dropped to a low of 28.1C overnight.
The extreme fire danger rating has been forecast for the Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East on Monday, as the CFS declares a total fire ban.
The Bureau of Meteorology reports hot to very hot and dry conditions coupled with fresh and gusty north to northwest winds will drive extreme fire danger over central and eastern parts of the agricultural area on Monday.
Isolated thunderstorms are also possible in the early morning with the potential for dry lightning while a gusty – but cool – southwesterly change will move the state.
Around the state, Port Augusta is tipped to hit a top of 42C, Murray Bridge a top of 39C, Naracoorte up to 37C and as high as 46C at Oodnadatta.
On Tuesday, with Adelaide forecast for a low of 16C and a top of 27C while most of the state can expect tops into the high 20s and mid 30s.
