South Australia’s most expensive private school has revealed a massive upgrade to its sporting grounds with a multi-level building overlooking its oval.
Pembroke School, in Kensington Park, will redevelop its Haslam Oval precinct with a multi-level building and new sports courts.
On the ground floor there will be indoor basketball courts which can also be used as a presentation area with tiered seating.
The upper floor will include seated areas and its old scholars war memorial gallery.
The development will also include additional outside courts.
In a video announcing the plan, Pembroke principal Mark Staker said the project was a “bold vision”.
“With the support of our Pembroke community, we will give it every opportunity to grow, a new treasured space that will touch the souls of those to come,” Mr Staker said.
The redeveloped precinct will be “a place to compete, a place to perform, a place to reflect and a place to celebrate,” he said.
The redesigned Haslam Oval would meet “the needs of our current and future students while always remembering our history”.
Pembroke School was established in 1974 though an amalgamation of Girton Girls’ School and King’s College.
The block of land was purchased by King’s College in 1929 and named after inaugural headmaster Joseph Haslam.
“It’s now our turn to plan for the future,” Mr Staker said.
It comes after The Advertiser revealed Pembroke School retained the title of Adelaide’s most expensive private school, becoming the state’s first to raise its year 12 fee above $33,000.
Latest fee information published online showed parents will be charged $33,120 to put a child through year 10, 11 or 12 at Pembroke School in 2025.
It lifted its fee six per cent from $31,251 in 2024.
