South Australians will fork out up to 18 per cent more to entertain their kids these school holidays compared to last year, with many popular entertainment options pushing up prices.

New data by Compare the Market reveals a two to 18 per cent price hike for seven of the 11 typical holiday boredom busters analysed, including trips to the bowling, mini golf and the zoo.

Compare the Market’s Chris Ford said prices had increased by a couple of dollars per child for some activities, which added up on top of the rising cost of living.

Zone Bowling experienced the most significant price rise of the attractions, with one game hiked from $15.90 to $18.90 – up by 18.86 per cent.

Bounce was among the higher cost rises, with a child ticket increasing from $18.50 to $20.50, while parents headed for AFL Max will now pay $32.50 for a two-hour pass – up from $30.

Other activities, including a trip to Adelaide Zoo, a visit to Monarto Safari Park, a day at Hahndorf Farm Barn and a round of mini golf at West Beach, saw price increases of between 2.38 per cent and 9.09 per cent compared to last year.

However, many popular activities – including TreeClimb, Woodhouse Activity Centre and the Cirkidz Circus School – have remained the same.

Mr Ford encouraged families to hunt for deals or check out websites ahead of visits as a way to save.

“There are several different cinema chains, bowling alleys and game arcades across Adelaide, each which can set their own prices and offer their own deals,” he said.

“Whether you’re taking your little ones to see the latest animation blockbuster or planning to bowl the day away with your brood, plan ahead of time and pay as little as possible.”

Mr Ford said school holiday offers could also be a great way to save, with many attractions offering discounts for more admissions or at certain times.

“A difference of a few dollars can really add up – especially if you’ve got multiple children,” he said.
