A man has been arrested after he was allegedly filmed hurling a glass bottle at a rough sleeper in Adelaide’s CBD, before laughing and driving away.
Footage surfaced over social media depicting the attack on Wednesday night, outside Wakefield Medical Clinic near the corner of Hutt St and Wakefield St.
The woman is wrapped in a blanket lying outside the clinic and can be heard crying out as the bottle shatters on her.
SA Police said that just after 9.30pm on Friday, Eastern District officers visited a Manningham home and arrested a 25-year-old.
He was charged with throwing a missile and assault, and bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 23.
Speaking earlier on Friday, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens called the footage “disgusting”.
“We’re talking about a person who is obviously sleeping rough, not living in the best circumstances, and to be victimised like that is a disgrace,” he said.
The victim of the attack has not been identified and police urged anyone with information to anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
