Nova 919 producer shares warm hug with the PM, a month after she mistook him for a prankster

A newbie producer’s first week didn’t exactly go down as expected, mistaking the Prime Minister for a prankster. But this has now spawned an unlikely friendship.

Adelaide radio producer’s hilarious PM faux pas

Not only has Nova 919 newbie producer Molly Rose shaken hands with the Prime Minister, but she’s also shared a fond hug with him – thanks to a faux pas on her first week.

More than a month ago, the 30-year-old made headlines for mistaking the PM for a prankster when he called into Jodie and Hayesy’s breakfast show.

The producer assumed he was a fringe impersonator and politely put him on hold for five minutes – a fumble she will always remember.

Now, in an interview with co-host Jodie Oddy and Hayes, the duo finally met in person after the funny faux pas more than a month back.

“We need to make amends to you. I don’t think it’s our apology to make do you?,” said Jodie on-air before introducing a sheepish Molly to the PM.

Tail between her legs, Molly went in for a hug and laughed, saying, “You’re a real person after all! while the PM responded with “I am. Who knew?”.

Molly professed her apologies before joking she had not slept since the incident had occurred.

The PM quipped about his distinctive voice, and said he sounded “like a Catholic kid from Camperdown in Sydney.”

“It was actually a bit of fun. So it’s not surprising,” the PM admitted.

“Sometimes I have to say to people who I ring … and they’ll go, is that really you? And you go, yeah”.

A starstruck Molly also dished on what the encounter was like.

“He was just a super lovely guy. He gave me a big hug which was nice,” she said.

“He’s a very down to earth guy and knows how to have a laugh. We’re obviously great mates now and I’ve got his number so definitely won’t make that mistake again …”

The duo revealed they’ve now become text buddies, with chats about “what goes on tour … all of that”.
