Normanville house blaze causes $1.3m in damages

Two residents and their pet dog have escaped a $1.3m fire that completely destroyed their three-storey home, amid reports ashes from a firepit may have caused the inferno.

A Fleurieu Peninsula property was completely destroyed by a fire on Sunday night, leaving the owners with a damage bill of more than $1.3m.

At about 9.20pm, emergency services were called to a property at Huntingdale Drive, Normanville after reports of a house fire.

The three-storey home had been completely engulfed in flames, but firefighters managed to get the blaze under control and save neighbouring properties.

Two residents at the home, and a dog were safely evacuated, with one occupant taken to hospital.

The luxury home last sold in April for $1.355m.

Emergency services included nine CFS appliances, SA Police, SA Ambulance and SES crews who attended the scene.

Crews remained at the scene to finish extinguishing the fire and ensure the scene was safe.

Fire Cause Investigators have traced the source of the blaze to ashes from a firepit that were placed in a bin when not fully extinguished.

Neighbour Ian Kelly said emergency fire crews worked quickly to evacuate residents in nearby properties.

“SES were banging on our window to get us out, and said, evacuate immediately,” Mr Kelly told 7News.

“So we did and grabbed the dogs and cars, and that’s all we could do. We just stood across the road and watched the house next door burn down.”
