New Balance unveils biggest Australian store at Rundle Mall site
Footwear giant New Balance has continued its bricks-and-mortar store expansion, transforming a former bank branch into its first flagship retail outlet in Adelaide.
New Balance has unveiled its newest and biggest Australian store in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall.
Stretching across 600sq m in a former Commonwealth Bank branch site at the eastern end of the mall, it’s the first retail store in South Australia for the US sports and athletics brand, adding to its discount outlets at Harbour Town and Parafield.
The new flagship outlet offers a “curated mix of New Balance’s top performance and lifestyle collections”, including its range of running shoes and lifestyle sneakers, as well as fashion and athletics apparel.
New Balance Asia Pacific DTC (direct-to-consumer) director Jonathan Clark said Friday’s opening reflected the brand’s growing investment in physical retail outlets across Australia following a series of new store openings nationwide.
“With the launch of our Melbourne Central flagship last year, alongside Pac Fair and Bondi Junction before that, New Balance has continued to accelerate its bricks-and-mortar presence across Australia,” he said.
“Entering South Australia for the first time underscores our confidence in the market and our commitment to making world-class retail experiences accessible to every major region. The Rundle Mall opening is a milestone that strengthens our national footprint and brings the full New Balance experience to Adelaide and we cannot wait to welcome you in store.”
CBRE head of retail leasing Julia Pottenger, who brokered the deal to bring New Balance to the Rundle Mall site, said it capped off a record year of leasing along the shopping strip, including the recent additions of new stores for The Body Shop, Supre and Tarocash.
“The new New Balance store is the definition of flagship retail. Formally occupied by Commonwealth Bank, the New Balance tenancy was refurbished by the landlord in conjunction with New Balance to create a stunning multi-level flagship,” she said.
“2025 has been a record year for transactions on Rundle Mall with former retailers coming back to the strip, significant expansions, relocations, additional stores and excitingly new international brands choosing Rundle Mall as their flagship.”
