The tight-knit community of Kadina is in shock after mysterious bones were found at the local cemetery.

Police are investigating the discovery of bones at a Kadina Cemetery, which do not match burial records.

Kadina police received the report of the discovery on Monday and arrived at the Russack Rd cemetery, with help from the SES, just before 12pm.

Locals say they saw shades erected at the cemetery on Monday, while SES crews and Police inspected the site.

Several mounds of dirt have been left at the burial plot, where the bones were reportedly found.

Locals told The Advertiser the discovery was “unnerving”.

“Something like this doesn’t happen down here, so it’s a little spooky,” one business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Advertiser.

Another said the discovery was “a bit suss”.

Copper Coast Council, who manages the Kadina Cemetery, did not comment on the incident.

Police say the bones will be examined by a forensic anthropologist.

However, it will take some time for forensic results to be available.

The Kadina Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery and is managed by the District Council of the Copper Coast.
