Police uncover huge drug stashes in separate busts at Port Augusta and Bowmans

A man and a woman will face court after police found methamphetamine, cannabis and more than $36,000 cash at a traffic stop, leading to the discovery of a commercial quantity of drugs at a home.
Just after 5pm on Sunday, January 19, police stopped a green Hyundai 4WD at Port Augusta.
Police identified the driver as disqualified and searched the car, allegedly finding methamphetamine, cannabis and more than $36,000 cash.
Police then searched the man’s home and will allege officers found a large commercial quantity of cannabis.
The driver, a 48-year-old man from Whyalla Playford, was arrested and charged with traffic in a controlled drug, money laundering, carrying an offensive weapon and driving disqualified.
A 66-year-old woman from Whyalla was also arrested and charged with traffic in a controlled drug, money laundering and carrying an offensive weapon.
Both were bailed to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on March 17.
It comes as police seized cannabis in a separate search of a property at Bowmans in the Mid North on Thursday.
As a result of the search, officers allegedly found cannabis plants being grown hydroponically along with a large amount of dried cannabis ready for sale, scales, resealable bags and other items.
The occupant, a 70-year-old man, was reported for cultivating cannabis, trafficking a non-commercial quantity of cannabis and possessing prescribed equipment.
He will be summonsed to appear in the Kadina Magistrates Court at a later date.
