The identity of a man who was allegedly killed in a violent altercation on a suburban street has been revealed, as chilling details emerge of his final moments.

The man allegedly killed in a violent altercation on his suburban street at Parafield Gardens has been identified as 65-year-old William Brassil.

Neighbours on Friday confirmed Mr Brassil, affectionately known as “Bill”, was the man killed when a neighbourhood dispute escalated on Thursday, about 10.30pm.

The Advertiser understands Mr Brassil, who had lived on Chesser St for decades, may have been helping a woman who fled to his house during an altercation with her partner.

It’s believed there was a fight between a man and a woman on the street just before 10.30pm on Thursday, and the woman subsequently went to a neighbouring property.

The neighbour – William “Bill” Brassil – came outside and sustained a fatal head injury.

He died at the scene, despite the efforts of two people who tried to resuscitate him by performing CPR until the ambulances arrived.

Friend and neighbour David – who asked to keep his surname private – paid tribute to Mr Brassil, remembering him as a “gentleman”.

“William was a very kind and gentlemanly person,” he told The Advertiser.

“He was friendly to all neighbours and really any passer-bys on the street even.

“He was the sort of guy who would always be there for his mates; always very generous and genuine.

“He wouldn’t hurt an ant.”

David believed Mr Brassil had worked in the construction industry before retiring.

“(He) had actually given thousands of dollars worth of scrap metal for me to use, that’s just what he’d do,” he added.

David said he felt for Mr Brassil’s family and friends, and sent them his condolences.

Another neighbour, Renee Jennings said there had been a number of disturbances in the street over the past fortnight.

“Over the past week and a half, there’s been arguments next door and then tragedy happened,” she said.

Ms Jennings said everyone on the street was just “devastated and shocked” after learning about Mr Brassil’s death.

“Bill was just this really nice guy, he’s lived on this street for about thirty years, and I used to see him walk his dog up and down the street,” she said.

“Everyone loved Bill on the street.”

A 29-year-old Gilberton man was arrested following the incident on Thursday night.

On Friday, police said he was being treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

He is currently being interviewed by detectives and is expected to be charged with manslaughter later on Friday.
