Kellie Finlayson has been battling terminal bowel cancer for more than 18 months, and now her health has left her anxious over her daughter’s future.

The 27-year-old mum – and wife of Port star Jeremy Finlayson – shared her fears alongside an adorable picture of herself and daughter Sophia, in matching bathing suits on Instagram.

The caption read: “Some days I wonder if we’ve done enough, with the possibility of not being able to give her a sibling, have we failed her? Ruined her childhood?”

“I know logically she’s living a pretty solid life but it’s not the one I planned to give her.”

She continued asking for “only child success stories” to help pull her out of the emotional rut she found herself in.

One of her followers was quick to share, “My husband died when my son was 1, and I haven’t had anymore children. He’s now 15, and he’s happy and well adjusted. I’ve just made sure he feels he can have friends over often, and kept him involved in sport, so he has lots of connections with kids his age. There are benefits to having only one, but I get it, sometimes I still feel sad life didn’t pan out like I’d planned.”

While another added, “I was a teacher for 44 years and could always pick an ‘only’. They generally were more mature, related well to all age groups and very keen to be helpful. Try not to worry- she will be awesome like her mum and dad.”

Ms Finlayson was diagnosed with terminal stage four bowel cancer three months after Sophia’s birth.

Despite her fears she may not be there for her daughter outside of the baby years, Ms Finlayson’s daughter is now two years old.

And following her most recent scans, intense chemotherapy and surgeries she has been given a glimmer of hope, after being told her cancer had stopped spreading.

The AFL star’s wife also spoke candidly with Body+Soul’s Extra Healthy-ish podcast in September about her treatment journey and how she felt she was living on “borrowed time”.
