Highgate Schoolteacher has been arrested following an alleged indecent assault

A teacher at a popular eastern suburbs primary school has been directed away from the site after it emerged they had been charged with indecent assault.

A teacher from an inner Adelaide public primary school has been arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault.

The Advertiser obtained a letter, dated Thursday, from Highgate School principal Nicola Brelsford to parents.

Ms Brelsford wrote that the teacher had been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

She wrote that the teacher had been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the police investigation.

“For the sake of the victim and the victim’s family and particularly to protect the identity of the victim, please treat this information as confidential,” she wrote, inviting concerned parents to contact her.

SA Police have told The Advertiser the teacher who lives in the eastern suburbs was arrested on Monday, February 12 by the Eastern District CIB for aggravated indecent assault on a child and was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on May 16.

A Department for Education spokeswoman said: “The staff member is prevented from attending any school or engaging in child-related work. They have been directed away from the site.”
