When Henry Nau walked into the Angle Vale Football Club presentation evening on Friday night, he was all smiles.
Just one week after suffering a serious head injury during his under-17s grand final match and being put into an induced coma, the 17-year-old “defied the odds” by being released from hospital.
Nau was hit during a contest at the match against Two Wells on September 14 and flown to hospital.
He was placed in an induced coma but soon regained consciousness and was released from hospital later that week.
A social media post on the Angle Vale Football and Netball Club Facebook on behalf of his parents Garry and Mishi thanked the club for its support during the past seven days.
“A massive thank you to each and every one of you — The love and support we’ve felt over the past week and (Friday) night has been unreal. Honestly we’re lost for words,” it said.
“Henry being released from hospital defied the odds. Walking into the club for the presentations last night and seeing Henry’s face light up was a moment we’ll never forget.”
Mr and Mrs Nau said they were overwhelmed by the kindness they received in those few difficult days.
Thank you for the warm welcome, the cheers, and all the amazing gifts. Your kindness has meant the world to us, and we’ll carry that with us forever.
The MRO is conducting an investigation into the melee, which was unrelated to Nau’s injury, as well as the incident involving Nau to determine whether he was intentionally or accidentally hit.
