‘He will live on in my heart forever’: James Hazzard remembered by his mum after sudden death

The Adelaide mother has paid tribute to her son after receiving news no parent can imagine.

Lynette Brock still believes there will be a knock at her front door and on the other side her 26-year-old son James Logan Hazzard will be standing there.

But heartbreakingly on September 26 one of James’ friends found him unconscious, dead of suspected heart failure.

The friend administered CPR and called an ambulance but it was too late.

“I still think it’s a dream,” 53-year-old, Ms Brock told The Advertiser.

“The struggle is ongoing and I’m not sure that will ever stop, maybe it will get easier.

“I have a huge hole in my heart that can never be filled or replaced. It’s not something that a mother expects to hear in her lifetime and I wish that no one else has to go through.

“I loved him dearly and (he) will live on in my heart forever.”

Prior to James’ unexpected death, he had a conversation on the phone with his mum.

“When we were saying goodbye … he said ‘I love you, Mum’,” the Lenswood mum said.

“That was the way he always ended every conversation we had and I will treasure those last words forever.”

Ms Brock said her son was “very outgoing” with an “outspoken personality”.

“He was always up for a laugh and had a heart of gold which cared deeply for those close to him,” she said.

“He treasured family especially his brothers and would have given up everything for his partner Lucy.

“James was someone you could call on and would always be there to help.”

In recent years James struggled with his mental health but prior to his death he had turned a corner and his mum said he’d gotten “his life back on the right path”.

“He’d recently found a new job that he was meant to start the week after his passing,” she said.

“We believe his mental health had nothing to do with his passing.

“I’m sure he is struggling with leaving us so suddenly as this is not the way he planned to leave this world.

“I do know that James would not want any of us to be sad so I will try and honour that for him.”

James had a passion for cars and was in the middle of a project refurbishing a car.

Justin Hazzard, James’ brother has set up a GoFundMe to finish this project to honour his brother.

“His brother and partner Lucy can complete a cruise around his favourite spots in Adelaide in (James) honour,” Ms Brock said.

All other funds will be donated to a men’s mental health charity as well as his memorial.

James Logan Hazzard was born on October 20 1997 and he died on September 26 2024. He was 26.

He is survived by his mother Lynette Brock, his father Glen Hazzard, his brother Justin and Andrew Hazzard, his stepmother Julie Hazzard and his soulmate Lucy Neville.
