From the $43 a night ultra budget getaway to the luxurious French Provincial-style chateau priced at almost $19,000 for a four-night weekend, Gather Round has sparked an Airbnb frenzy of hosts eager to cash in on the festival of football.
Many top end deals available earlier in the year have been snapped up — luxurious beachfront mansions and prestige villas with touches such as pool and in-house cinemas being advertised for upwards of $10,000 for four nights from Thursday, April 10 to Monday 14 are now off the market.
Others such as the five bedroom Marino house with pool marketed as having “stunning views” have been reduced as the sports showpiece draws closer — it is now listed for $7420 for four nights, down from $11,018.
The same host has cut the price of a six bedroom Glenelg bungalow with pool from $12,705 to $7085, and a four-bedroom house in Norwood from $8703 to $7467.
More than 560 venues were on offer for the April dates on Airbnb this week.
At the top end, 37 places were listed from $7000 upwards for the four nights including the three bedroom French Provincial Maison de Moon farm stay in Clarendon for $18,832, a six bedroom beachfront home in Marino with infinity pool for $17,169, a beachfront home in Grange for $16,175, a Tennyson Beach home with five bedrooms for $15,669 and a farm in Mylor for $12,593.
A new home in Grange is listed for $12,478, a Brighton apartment with four beds for $11,620, a six bedroom Burnside villa for $11,600, an Aldinga Beach home with eight queen beds for $10,378 and a Bellevue Heights estate with tennis court, pool and six bedrooms for $10,283.
For well-heeled couples after convenience and a touch of romance with their footy, a one bedroom city apartment is on offer for $9243 while a one bedroom city hotel suite for $9321 comes with a “nightly drink voucher”.
At the cheap and cheerful end of the market, hosts are advertising everything from campsites and caravans to single bed rooms for footy fans more interested in enjoying getting out and about than critiquing accommodation.
Girl Guides is advertising two unpowered campsites at Blewitt Springs for $43 a night for one person — the cost rises to $993 for 10 campers for four nights.
Host Ethan is advertising a “room in Flagstaff Hill, one queen bed, shared bathroom, a room in a tiny house” — with a photo of a caravan in a driveway, for $405 for two people for the four nights.
A room in Campbelltown with shared bathroom is available for $150 featuring a striking tiger print bedspread while one at Croydon Park for the same price has a rose print bedspread.
For something completely different, a lovingly restored 1936 tram carriage in an idyllic rural setting is available in the Onkaparinga Hills with one bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and hot tub on the veranda, priced at $1935 for a couple for the four nights.
