Four Sides Bar & Kitchen in Hyde Park has permanently shut its doors as the state’s hospitality crisis claims another restaurant.
The wine bar and restaurant embraced multicultural cuisine after it was opened in mid-2023 by French chef Fabien Streit, Italian manager Nazzareno Falaschetti and their business partner Baz Rampal, who is Indian.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the Four Sides team said the hospitality industry was “on its knees” while sharing they had “made the tough decision to close the doors”.
“This place has been more than just a restaurant – it’s been a home for good food, great conversations, and even better company,” the post said.
“The reality is, hospitality is on its knees.
“Running a venue in this climate has never been tougher, and so many incredible local businesses are doing it tough.
“If there’s one thing we ask, it’s this: support your local cafés, bars, and restaurants. They need you now more than ever.”
The post suggested the owners’ hospitality careers would continue, referring to “new opportunities” and asking customers to “watch this space”.
The King William Road restaurant served drinks, snacks and high-end dishes focusing on Asian cuisines with French and modern Australian influences.
Customers on Instagram said they were disappointed at the closure, with one writing: “So sad to hear this, loved dining with you, your food was so good.”
Others said “it’s been hard for small businesses the last few years” and that they were “so sad to read this, I’ve been bringing everyone there”.
The owner, Mr Rampal, also owns Bistro Francais, a French restaurant in Hyde Park, said he was focusing on the future.
