Record dry spell continues with chances of rain in Adelaide low

Adelaide is heading for a top of 27C on Monday as the dry start to 2025 continues – but what conditions can we expect next?

Adelaide is heading for a top of 27C on Monday as the dry start to 2025 continues.

While the temperature is predicted to drop to tops of low 20s during the week, the weekend is set to jump back up to 25C and the skies aren’t expected to open and deliver any meaningful rainfall this week.

Only a paltry 23.8mm of rain in Adelaide so far this year, about 20 per cent of the average rainfall for the first four months of the year.

Bureau of Meteorology’s Mark Anolak told FIVEAA breakfast listeners should not hold their breath for rainfall this week.

“It looks pretty dry this week … there is a slight risk overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday but mostly confined to the southern coast and that would be very light I would think,” he said.

According to weatherzone.com.au, just 14.4mm of rain was recorded at the city’s main weather station from January 1 to the morning of April 15, 2025 – the fourth-driest period on record from the start of the year to the midpoint of autumn.

The only drier years from January 1 to April 15 were 1986 (11.4mm), 1989 (11.2mm) and 1980 (5.8mm).

As of April 15, reservoirs in the Mount Lofty catchment area in the Adelaide Hills were at just 37 per cent.
