Crows ruckman Reilly O’Brien kicked off the year in the best possible way, tying the knot with the “love of his life” Chloe Swale in the Barossa Valley.
The happy couple exchanged vows at Alkina Wine Estate on Friday afternoon, in front of close family and friends including several of the groom’s Crows teammates.
O’Brien, 29, described it as the “best day of our lives”.
“I’m so lucky to have become one forever with the love of my life in front of all the people we love most,” he told The Advertiser.
The nuptials come a week after the only other full-time ruckman on the Crows’ list, Kieran Strachan, also said ‘I Do’ with fiancee Suzie Cockroft.
Among O’Brien’s groomsmen were former Crows Jake Kelly and Ned McHenry, while other guests included retired midfielder Rory Sloane, and current stars Taylor Walker, captain Jordan Dawson, and Ben Keays.
Swale wore a stunning gown by Adelaide couture house GretaKate for the ceremony, as well as a mini dress by the same label for the reception, with jewellery by James Thredgold.
Leading Adelaide chef Chris Jarmer – the Crows and Australian swimming team’s private chef – prepared the menu, while all styling and florals were by One Rundle Trading and One Rundle Flower Bar Marquee.
The happy couple, who have been together for over eight years, announced their engagement in October 2023.
A veteran of 121 AFL matches for the Crows, O’Brien proposed with a platinum engagement ring with a spectacular solitaire created by Norwood jeweller Thredgold.
Swale shared the news to her Instagram at the time with the caption: “Best Day EVER! Engaged to my soulmate.”
Swale’s father is Adrian Swale, one of South Australia’s most experienced real estate, property and development lawyers. He has previously nominated for the Crows board.
Her mother Amanda, is the director and owner of popular homewares store One Rundle Trading Co.
It’s been a busy off-season for SA’s top footballers, with Crows players Brodie Smith and Keiran Strachan, and Port Adelaide’s Connor Rozee and Sam Powell-Pepper all tying the knot since the conclusion of the AFL’s year.
Crows star Rory Laird also became engaged to his partner Ell Taylor.
The only other full-time ruckman on the Crows’ list, Strachan tied the knot with fiancee Suzie Cockroft in the Adelaide Hills last weekend.
Sporting a moon boot following a serious injury last month, Strachan and Cockroft exchanged vows at picturesque Anvers Wines in Kangarilla on Sunday, with Strachan’s Crows teammate Darcy Fogarty among the groomsmen.
Both originally from Victoria, the couple posted several photos from the big day in a joint Instagram post captioned: “The Strachans”.
Several snaps showed off Strachan’s discreet moon boot, which he’s wearing following an injury suffered in December. He reported soreness after running and scans showed an acute navicular stress fracture in his right foot, which required surgery.
