New two-storey MECCA store opens at Burnside Village

Burnside Village’s much-anticipated new extension – with MECCA and UNIQLO – is finally open … but wait, there’s more!

The Advertiser can reveal that jewellery giants Tiffany & Co and Paspaley and popular Australian fashion brands Zimmermann, Morrison and Viktoria & Woods are also moving in.

The extension opened today and dedicated shopaholics were lining up to be the first in stores such as MECCA and Stylerunner.

At 8am there was already 50 people in line for MECCA, which was due to open at 9am.

Flight attendant Trudi Day, 23, of Mt Compass, was first in line and had been in the queue since 6am.

“I’m looking for some blushes and might get a facial,” she said.

A job for the new Tiffany & Co. Burnside Village store’s manager has been advertised on the retailer’s website and SEEK.

“Get ready! We are thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of a brand-new store in Adelaide,” the SEEK ad reads.

The upcoming launch of the Burnside Village store, which has signage out front and is understood to be near completion, comes more than a decade after the grand opening of Adelaide’s first Tiffany & Co. on North Tce.

Earlier this month, The Advertiser reported that Tiffany & Co. would be razed to make way for a 31-storey office and retail tower as part of a $260m plan unveiled by owner Precision Group.

Burnside Village: First look at new extension

Burnside Village’s multimillion-dollar expansion is doubling its footprint to almost 39,000sq m.

A Lanik roof – made up of more than 600 glass panels – is a key feature of the extension, which has been designed to create a sense of ‘quiet luxury’ as opposed to having a cramped-mall feel.

The first 100 customers to make a purchase at MECCA were going to be given a complimentary full-sized product, while those spending $85 or more on opening weekend will receive a limited-edition MECCA tote bag.

UNIQLO staged a traditional Japanese ribbon-cutting ceremony and taiko drumming performance to celebrate its opening.

And there are freebies too: The first 500 customers to spend $100 or more in UNIQLO will get a gift bag.

While MECCA has had a presence at Burnside Village for a number of years, its new store is a two-storey flagship.
