Police have found a grey ute which could provide key evidence in the alleged murder of Chris Robertson, 49, who was founddead in a Lonsdale warehouse in September.

A Mitsubishi Triton has been seized for forensic examination as part of a continuing murder investigation.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said the discovery of the car at Cherry Gardens was a significant step forward.

“The recovery of this vehicle is a significant breakthrough in our investigation into Chris’s murder,” he said.

“Detectives will now focus on how the Triton got to this location and the people who assisted in moving it.

“We urge anyone who saw this vehicle in the Cherry Gardens area or has any knowledge of its movements between Sunday 28 September and today to contact us immediately.”

Police are still seeking information from the public about who may have been using the Mitsubishi Triton around the time of Mr Robertson’s death.

Detective Fielke previously said CCTV footage showed the car at the Lonsdale warehouse on the morning of Sunday, September 28.

He said the person driving the car at the time, who had spoken to police, was a suspect in the murder. The driver has not been charged and they are not the car’s owner.

Detective Fielke said Mr Robertson, the only passenger in the car, was alive when it arrived at the premises, but it was unclear if he had travelled in the car willingly.

“We’re still working through that, but what is really important is to find that vehicle, have it subjected to some forensic testing, which might actually provide us some more answers into just that,” he said last month.

“We believe they’re associates. We believe Chris and the driver of that vehicle are known to each other.”

Mr Robertson was last seen alive on Saturday 27 September while celebrating with friends during the Grand Final weekend.

A post-mortem examination previously revealed he was assaulted and the subsequent injuries resulted in his death.

The Moana man was a father-of-two and had five siblings.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the murder of Chris Robertson is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
