Football clubs across SA’s Murraylands and Mallee regions have paid tribute to a teenager who died in devastating health tragedy, calling for a minute’s silence and black armbands to be worn.
Mallee Districts Sporting Club acknowledged the death 18-year-old Tyson Freund, who reportedly suffered breathing problems on Tuesday while on his family farm at Coonalpyn.
The club, who had previous connections to Tyson’s family, extended their deepest condolences to the family.
“This loss touches the hearts of many across the Mallee,” the tribute post read.
“Our thoughts and love are with the Freund and Jones families and all who knew and cared for Tyson, during this incredibly difficult time.”
A minute’s silence was held before the Storm v Ramblers U18 game on Saturday in honour of Tyson, who recently graduated year 12 at a close-knit Murray Bridge school last year.
Tyson’s club, where he was the captain, the Jervois Bluds Football Club on Saturday gathered both their under 18 teams in a circle and placed Tyson’s guernsey in the middle and paid tribute to the player.
“A big day at Tailem Bend today,” they wrote on Facebook.
“We paid our respects to Tyson Freund (thanks so much to the Tailem Bend community).”
The heartfelt tribute follows the clubs statement where they announced the passing of Tyson saying Tyson’s loss “will be felt far and wide within our Bluds community”.
Further Imperial and Mypolonga League teams paid their respect to the Jervois U18 captain, Tyson, with a minute silence before their match, as well as black armbands worn by all teams.
