A man accused of attempted murder after a stabbing in Prospect last month has been released back into the community on home detention bail.
In the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday morning, Yol Bol Yol, 40, learned he would be released back to his home just a week after allegedly attacking another man with a knife.
Mr Yol has been charged with attempted murder, with police alleging he stabbed another man at a home in Prospect last week.
Police were called to a Charles St home late March 1 and found the victim on the floor outside of the premises.
The man was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” and where he was in a serious but stable condition.
Mr Yol, also of Prospect, handed himself in to the Holden Hill Police Station the following day.
Kate Opolski, for Mr Yol, at his first hearing argued her client had acted in self-defence after the “alleged victim came at (him) with a knife”.
“My instructions are that the alleged victim continued to come at my client with that knife,” she said.
Ms Opolski said that South Sudan-born Mr Yol had a difficult childhood where he watched his father be murdered in front of him at a young age and was a child soldier.
A home detention bail report ordered at his last hearing deemed Mr Yol a suitable candidate for release to his Prospect address, but prosecutors maintained their opposition to his release.
“The victim is still in hospital and will be for some time,” the prosecutor said.
“He has life altering injuries. The knife has still not been located. The victim is clearly very concerned for his safety.”
Despite their concerns, Magistrate Alison Adair agreed to release Mr Yol, a father of three, to his partner’s address in Para Vista.
He will return to court in July.
