The alleged target of a bikie-bashing plot has been charged with laundering more than $700,000 as part of ongoing Operation Ironside investigations.
Matthew James Cameron, 29, of Glandore, who police allege is a fully patched member of the Comanchero bikie gang, is charged with four counts of money laundering – as well as trafficking in methamphetamine and arson.
He was arrested on May 10 and remanded in custody. Last week he appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court where he withdrew a bail application.
Mr Cameron was the target of an alleged conspiracy to cause serious harm that prosecutors claim was orchestrated by senior members of the Comanchero.
Police allege that through the encrypted AN0M app, the bikies arranged to meet Mr Cameron in a dark location without any cameras.
The group allegedly settled on the Adelaide Aquatic Centre carpark as a location for the bashing.
During bail applications for the other accused, the Adelaide Magistrate Court heard Mr Cameron would have been told he was going to assault somebody else, but his gang mates would instead turn on him.
Prosecutors said one of the five men charged sent a message to the group saying they needed to do “a good job, make a statement”.
Another message read: “I want a massive statement … I want everything broken”.
The messages were allegedly sent on the encrypted AN0M platform, which was being secretly monitored by police.
Prosecutors have alleged there was a larger Comanchero chat group that included many, if not all, members of the gang in South Australia.
A separate group entitled “Get It Done” had been set up so the five men accused of the plotting the bashing could co-ordinate it.
Mr Cameron was not a part of that group.
The court has previously heard that on the eve of the intended bashing police told Mr Cameron of the conspiracy.
Prosecutors have said Mr Cameron called senior members of the Comanchero in a successful bid to spare himself from the serious assault.
Court documents show Mr Cameron is accused of laundering $155,000 at Kilburn, $198,000 in Prospect, $158,000 in Findon and $200,000 in Adelaide.
He is also accused of arson of a building or vehicle in Mansfield Park on March 28, 2020.
Finally, Mr Cameron is also accused of trafficking a commercial quantity of methamphetamine at Prospect and a basic trafficking of methamphetamine in Glenelg.
