A homeless woman who allegedly escaped hotel quarantine while Covid positive has been granted release on bail – and plans to live with a man who had not yet provided consent, a court has heard.

Cleo June Carter, 31, appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking release on bail after prosecutors challenged a Magistrates Court decision to grant her bail last week.

She allegedly left CBD medi-hotel Tom’s Court about 9.30pm on December 30, and went to a house in Rostrevor where she was arrested the next day.

She is yet to enter a plea to a charge of failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act.

Hannah Hannaford Gunn, for Ms Carter, asked the court to release her to live with a male friend at Hectorville, but said her client had not yet been able to get his consent because the Adelaide Women’s Prison has been in lockdown.

“For that reason she has not been able to access her mobile phone to contact people … to be able to confirm who she could reside with,” she said.

“There has not been able to be any confirmation that (the man) has given Ms Carter to reside there.”

But she said Ms Carter had lived there previously, including just prior to her arrest.

She said Ms Carter had recoverd from the virus and tested negative on Friday.

Justice Judy Hughes granted bail, on condition she report to Correctional Services within 24 hours and live where directed.
