Residents of a home in Adelaide’s northeast has had a lucky escape after a fire that caused extensive damage to the property.

Emergency services were called to the home on Grand Junction Rd in Hope Valley about 10am Sunday with reports the home was on fire.

On arrival, the 18 firefighters from five appliances went into action, reporting smoke was billowing from the roof.

The occupants had fled the home without injury.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in 15 minutes which prevented further damage to the structure.

Initial investigations determined the fire was caused by an airconditioner in the ceiling.

Fire investigators estimated the damage bill to be about $300,000.

It is the second structure fire reported in four days linked to an air-cooler device after an Aldinga Beach family was left with little after a Valentine’s Day blaze.

The southern suburbs family lost everything in a ferocious house fire that started in a bedroom in an portable evaporative air cooler about 3am February 14.

It took hold of the property within minutes, the smell of smoke inside an 18-year-old woman’s bedroom waking her and her fiance.

They were among the six occupants inside – including a two and five-year-old child and adults aged 57 and 33 – who all escaped without injury.
