A new $10m cellar door, restaurant and function centre “like the d’Arenberg Cube” would help boost tourism to the Southern Fleurieu, according to its architect.

Mt Jagged Wines has lodged plans with Alexandrina Council for a 12m-high, two-storey building on Victor Harbor Rd.

The new development has been designed by Arc Two architects.

Director and lead architect at Arc Two Martino Collicelli said “Mt Jagged will be a luxury world-class cellar door and restaurant and will drive international tourism to the area”.

According to the plans, the 500sq m proposed development would have floor to ceiling windows, an elevated viewing area, a wishing well and a 75 seat restaurant.

It would also feature outdoor seating areas and a 73-space carpark.

The development would replace an existing cellar door at the 59ha property.

Mt Jagged Wines winery manager Sky Yu said the development would “be a luxury one-of-a-kind cellar door and restaurant to the Southern Fleurieu region of South Australia.”

A report by planning consultants UPRS, tabled to the council, said the project would help boost tourism on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

“The Mt Jagged Winery has a longstanding presence in the Southern Fleurieu supported by its short drive to the popular and internationally renowned McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia,” it said.

“The proposal enhances the existing land use and its operations, adding value to the site and the wider wine industry in this part of the State via improved, modern facilities.”

The application for the development is up for public consultation via the Plan SA website until January 31 at 11.59pm.
