More than 280 affordable housing allotments will be available to first home buyers as part of the state government’s Playford Alive project.

Out of the total 282 new land allotments in the Newton Boulevard area, 175 are priced at or below the affordable land price point of $222,750 to help first time buyers get their foot in the door sooner.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Nick Champion said demand is high with 178 of the 190 allotments released in April already sold.

A further 45 allotments are set to hit the market this month with blocks from 269-520 square metres on offer from prices beginning at $209,000.

“The development is a welcome addition, providing affordable land stock, helping young families enter the housing market,” member for Light, Tony Piccolo said.

“Its location near important facilities like schools, medical services and general shopping is beneficial for families and will heap reduce their day-to-day cost of living.”

The housing development will happen simultaneously with the road extension of Newton Boulevard to connect it to Stebonheath road to improve access to the allotments,

with Mr Champion hoping the roadworks will also “relieve stress” on Curtis Road.

“The extension of Newton Boulevard will make a real difference to many families in the Munno Para West Area to avoid the congestion on Curtis Road,” Mr Piccolo added.
