RESIDENTS have told how they heard an "'almighty bang" followed by screams of pain after a collision between a vehicle driven by Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews' wife and a young teenager on a bicycle.
Brad Morgan yesterday said he rushed out from his Ridley St home in Blairgowrie after hearing the thud as the taxpayer-funded Ford Territory driven by Catherine Andrews collided with cyclist Ryan Meuleman on January 7.
Mr Morgan said he was confronted with his mate's son lying on the road screaming.
After impact, the teenager was thrown into the air, smashing the car's windscreen and falling metres away from his mangled wreck of a bike.
"I saw him lying on the ground and ran back inside to get some blankets," Mr Morgan said.
"When I came back two women, the driver and someone else who had stopped, had put a towel underneath him and were holding an umbrella on top of him.
"The driver just kept screaming ... She was totally hysterical."
Mrs Andrews and the bystander stayed with the teenager and tried to comfort him as they waited for paramedics to arrive, residents said.
Witnesses said a visibly shaken Mr Andrews took his traumatised children home, before soon returning.
"He came up in a car and said 'I have got the children and taken them home, it was my wife who hit the boy'," witness Amber Smith said.
Mr Andrews then went over to comfort his wife, as paramedics stabilised Ryan and prepared to take him to the Rye football ground, so he could be flown to the Royal Children's Hospital.
