An accountant, a financial engineer, and prosthetics developer walked into a bar, because it was Friday’s knock-off drinks.

A group of young professionals in Mackay has gone against the social norm of befriending colleagues in similar fields, instead choosing to network with similarly ambitious individuals in different pathways.

The 1000-strong group was created more than 10 years ago to help young and ambitious professionals in their chosen fields help network and create business relations with other Mackay locals.

The members of the Young Professionals that attended the recent social drinks enjoyed a detailed explanation on how prosthetic arms and legs connect with their human users.

Committee member Naomi Schultie said the Young Professionals was created to help connect people in Mackay.

“It gives everyone a forum to catch up and bring local professionals together, and to create those business relations and a sense of community within those relations,” she said.

“It’s been really successful from a networking standpoint, we usually get 80-100 people to our main events, it’s quite a diverse range of employment represented.”

Mrs Schultie said the diversity is what made the group so successful.

“We have financial advisers, accountants, small business owners, real estate agents, people who are in a professional employment or owns their own business is involved,” she said.

The next Young Professionals catch up will be on July 8, with details of the location on the Young Professionals Facebook page.
