The case against an Iraqi migrant who is alleged to have abducted multiple women while posing as a rideshare driver has been delayed by his defence team while on the final signatures of three witness statements.

Nasir Ilyas Kicho accused of abducting a woman from outside a Toowoomba nightclub on March 2 and taking her to his Newtown home.

He was arrested at the house after the 36-year-old woman sent a message to a third party asking for help.

He was initially charged with sexual assault and deprivation of liberty but after his identity was made public more women came forward with allegations of similar behaviour, including an 18-year-old woman.

The 24-year-old man now faces three counts of sexual assault, and one count each of deprivation of liberty, common assault and stalking.

These matters were briefly mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday when his lawyer, Claire Graham, asked for a two week adjournment.

She told the court her colleague had a conference with Mr Kicho later that day but was waiting on several civilian witnesses statements.

The court heard electronic versions of the statement were available, but the witnesses had not yet signed physical copies.

Magistrate Kyna Morice quizzed the police prosecutor about the delay, noting that the defence team had to deal with the extra difficulty of needing an interpreter during its conferences with the accused.

“It is absent three witness statements that could potentially be quite important.” she said.

The matter was adjourned to June 26 with Mr Kicho held on remand.
