Man who followed ex-partner to police station jailed for stalking
A bitter menace bombarded his ex with chilling videos and texts, warning an ugly end awaited anyone who tried to help her.
A man who threatened to gut anyone who helped his ex-partner, following her to a police station and peppering her with terrifying videos and texts, has been sentenced.
Brock William Taylor, 28, appeared before the Rockhampton District Court on Friday, December 5.
Between October 7 and October 11, 2024, Taylor made repeated threats against his former partner and members of her family.
The court heard Taylor had been in a de facto relationship with his victim and the relationship ended one month prior to the offending.
“It’s over the course of a period of four days that the defendant engaged in conduct that was intimidating, harassing or abusive towards the complainant,” Crown prosecutor Monique Bros-Wilshire said.
This conducted included sending multiple messages which included threats of physical violence against her and making unwelcome visits to her home.
Taylor’s messages took the form of voice messages, texts and video recordings.
“She (the victim) … received a video of him holding a knife and saying words to the effect of “call up anyone you want darling because I will just jam this knife of your dad’s straight through their fucking gut,” Ms Bros-Wilshire said.
“He tapped the knife on the screen two times and then said, ‘see you soon baby I’m just going to have a couple of bongs then I’m coming’.”
In another video Taylor was seen with a machete with the partner’s family surname on it and stated that it was for her brother.
Taylor also told his former partner that “hopefully you hang yourself or slit your own wrists and then you’ll see a smile on my face from that day,” and wrote “slut” on the poles of her building unit.
When his distressed former partner went to the Yeppoon Police Station, Taylor followed her and parked up behind her and, knowing she was with her brother, sent a message stating he’d damage the brother’s car.
The car was never damaged.
Taylor was ultimately arrested and taken into custody.
He pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful stalking, intimidation, harassing, abuse, use/threaten violence, contravene/threaten to contravene order/injunction domestic relationship as well as 17 counts of contraventions of domestic violence order (aggravated offence).
The court heard Taylor had a relevant criminal history.
Defence barrister Maree Willey said her client was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in 2022 and had been drinking excessively, using methamphetamine during the offending period and not taking his prescribed medication.
Judge Geoff Clarke said the offending made for “pretty ugly reading” and it was disappointing that while in the dock Taylor appeared bored and disinterested.
Taylor was sentenced to 18 months’ jail on the count of stalking and six months for each of the contraventions of a domestic violence order, to be served concurrently, and with 100 days of pre-sentence custody is eligible for parole on January 21, 2026.
