Mackay Show punters were left longing for a raincoat as a downpour moved in this afternoon, and more is expected tomorrow.
Between 10-20mm of rain soaked the Mackay CBD across Wednesday, with the majority falling after 4pm.
The rain system came in from the west where more than 30mm was recorded in some areas across the day.
Bureau of Meteorology’s Shane Kennedy said it was more rain than expected.
“The initial prediction was between 5-15mm in the metro region of Mackay,” he said.
“Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening as the unstable tropical air hits Mackay.
“The rain is likely to continue tomorrow with another 5-20mm expected on the central coast.”
The rainfall was caused by unstable tropical air sweeping across the coastline, but it is expected to dissipate by Thursday afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 26C on the show holiday, and an 80 per cent chance of showers most likely in the early morning.
“Friday to Sunday will be clear days, but much colder than the last few days because of the trough of cold air coming in,” Mr Kennedy said.
“There will most likely be some frost inland over the next couple of days, as well as some early-morning fog tomorrow.”
Raincoats and jackets will be trendy at the Show on Thursday’s public holiday.
