There is nothing like the lure of a premiership that brings family together.

For Naton and Mikayla Pitt, the father and daughter combination will make their grand final debut together on Saturday.

Naton will coach the Souths in the under 14s girls grand final against Moranbah at BB Print Stadium, while Mikayla will play for her dad.

Naton said he was excited to potentially win a premiership with his daughter.

“It’s really exciting to coach my daughter, it’s a special connection we have,” he said.

“In saying that, it’s special to get the opportunity to coach all of the girls, I treat them all like they were my own daughters.

“They’re a good bunch of girls, they love their rugby, they love playing for each other, and they are a pleasure to coach.”

Mikayla said she having her dad as coach, but he was a tough one.

“He’s a bit harsher on me than the other girls, he won’t say it but he expects more from me,” Mikayla said.

“He’s a good coach and he knows what he’s talking about.”

The grand final will be played at 4.45pm on Saturday, with the U17s grand final and the XXXX Chairman’s Challenge semi final following in a day of rugby league.

It will be the first time Souths play in front of a big crowd at a major stadium, but Mikayla said the side was excited for the opportunity.

“We don’t really get any crowds at our games, except for our families,” she said.

“We’re all really excited and nervous to play in front of so many people.”

With the side set to play in its first grand final, Naton is keeping the game plan simple for his team.

“They didn’t really know what pressure finals football brings, but after last week I think they’ve now got a pretty good idea,” Naton said.

“We won in a close game last week, it was 8-8 and we won in first try after that, so we won’t try to change it too much.”
