David Crisafulli nailed his brief as Queensland Premier.
The main stadium may still not be big enough.
Excitement is now building for the 2032 Games.
These are just some of the takeaways from those in the state following the announcement of the Brisbane Olympics plan.
As part of the blueprint three stadiums will be within a shock new multibillion-dollar sport and entertainment precinct.
An upgraded 20,000-seat RNA arena at Brisbane Showgrounds was the surprise addition to Victoria Park, where a new Olympic stadium and $650m National Aquatic Centre will also be built.
They will be located near Suncorp Stadium, giving Queenslanders 135,000 stadium seats within 2.5km.
Premier Crisafulli revealed the government would endorse 90 per cent of the recommendations made by an independent panel – and even a broken election promise seemed to get the green light from readers.
In an online poll more than 90 per cent said they were willing to overlook his pledge to not build a new stadium.
In another poll more than 85 per cent of readers voted that they were happy with the Olympic venues.
Readers were quick to pile into the conversation, many heaping praise on the Premier for his handling of the announcement.
Others, though, insisted it was yet another broken promise from a Queensland politician.
Many said they were now excited for the Games, however some claimed the main stadium should still be bigger.

WHAT YOU SAID
Go even bigger
Alf
We need a stadium that holds 100,000. Brisbane is t getting any smaller. Absolutely love all the upgrades to infrastructure
Andy
I would like to have a larger redevelopment of the Brisbane tennis centre. This would allow it to progress from an annual ATP250 event to a 500 or even Masters 1000, thus attracting more top players.
Cam
It’s a good move . so why only 60,000 if a stadium is to last that long . we need 80,000 people !!!
Michael
The stadium should be 70,000. They are not looking to the future.
Missed opportunities
Sadie
Another stadium without a roof – goodbye live music events, hello summertime storm carnage, heat, sunburn … a wasted opportunity …
Realistic
Traffic gridlock for years & years to come.
Wont go near the place.
Christine
I cannot believe the equestrian events are to be held in Toowoomba when the State Equestrian headquarters are located in Caboolture. There already is a Huge undercover stadium with horse stalls, dedicated float parking, an arena adjacent already used for show jumping events, and only a few minutes from the Caboolture railway station. What will happen to the Toowoomba site after the games?
Phil
The thing that upsets me is more of Victoria Park going. I am not a left Greene.
Vandemonian
So, after the 4 weeks of the Olympics what will the plan for the 25,000 seat, 650 million dollar swimming pool be?
How will it ever be used to capacity?
Love the plan
Ron
For all the hysterical Negative Nellies prattling on about the cost, have a look at Paris. They hosted the games on a similar model to Brisbane
Melissa
Finally a decent sized stadium for Brisbane, love the location, central with close transport – don’t let the not in my backyard folk stop this project
Geoff
Awesome. Bringing QLD into the 21st century. Get stuck in and get it done!
Joshua
Exciting. So good we are saved from an embarrassing old plan theory other tried to push before
Well played, Crisafulli
Patrick
By foregoing his preference for no new stadiums, Crisafulli has shown good leadership by taking good advice and shown that he is not the sort of dictator we have become accustomed to.
Phillip
I don’t think I am voting Labor ever again. Thanks to the liberals for cleaning up this absolute Mess. What a relief
Stephen
Why did it take 4 years to get to this stage. Shame Labor, Shame.
Lynne
Personally if this gets kids off their butts and exercise with a dream then the money is worth every cent. Go the young of Australia.
Mary
This is a good result under the circumstances and the Premier is to be commended for dealing as well as is possible having been handed the poison chalice left for his government to cope with
Rosemary
After the complete mess Anna and Giggles made of dithering and indecision it’s good to see the Premier take it on the chin and lay out a clear and concise plan
Not a fan
Sandy
Another broken promise. This government can’t be trusted.
Lorraine
That whole area will be a traffic gridlock for years and years.
Kevin
Don’t let the cfmeu anywhere near the construction of these venues, they would go on strike, go slow bans, shut downs, intimidation and everything else they do.
King Matt
Aquatic centre, seriously. Fill it once a year at best. It will not generate any income that would go close to paying the maintenance let alone the build cost, Expensive school carnival venue!
JOHN
Why would we spend 650 mil on a full blown aquatic centre when it will hardly be utilised to full capacity in the future. The drop in pool was always the cheapest and most practical solution. An absolute white elephant. Interesting to see if the report actually recommended it
