The “CFMEU building tax” may be gone but it lingers large in the construction industry and with Queenslanders.

It was revealed tenders for construction projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars have been torn up by bureaucrats after government axed what it labels the CFMEU building tax.

The state government this month paused the Best Practice Industry Conditions Policy – introduced by the Labor government – it argued sapped productivity and could cost the economy $17.1bn by 2030.

The Courier-Mail can reveal, in response to the policy’s pause, government departments are pulling construction project tenders before retesting the market in the hope they can be built cheaper.

A contract to build Townsville University Hospital’s $530m expansion was pulled by Queensland Health after BPIC was paused by Industrial Relations Minister Jarrod Bleijie in November.

News of the chaos sparks fury and confusion among readers.

Some claimed it was a step in the right direction now Labor is out of power; others tipped more of the same under the LNP.

It’s great to see someone picking up the broom and cleaning up this mess the previous Labor Party had created. It’s unbelievable the billions upon billions of wasted taxpayers dollars under the previous administration, no wonder that a resource rich state like Queensland lost its AAA rating . Let’s hope Crisafulli and his team can get Queensland back on track and into the green.

We had to get some windows replaced in our apartment building. The manufacturer guided us to a small professional installer to get the job finished. We saved over $100k by not involving contractors associated with CMFEU. I think that says it all!

If this is the only change the LNP effects, they would have achieved more in their first 100 days than Labor did in 10 years.

Excellent outcome. Strong leadership for a change. Hopefully, this continues across all sectors that need fixing. Health, Education, Welfare, Justice and Politicians Wages... start with this simple question. Does it benefit the taxpayers (those that fund all this, usually without benefit), not the recipient, does it help the majority. Waste is uncontrollable in our country.

we can only hope we don’t have the trouble with work of contracts like they tried to save money in the last LNP government with the trains they brought in Indian which ending costing us more as the Maryborough company had to repair them before they could be used.

Well done , its a ‘reset’ that will benefit not just Qld Govt projects but the Qld economy as a whole , now watch as over inflated housing build costs also revert to ‘normal’ rates and inflation is actually brought under control

It’s a bit like a footballer been out injured for a few weeks & when he comes back it takes a while to get back in top condition, I see the CFMEU n a similar position who have been not working to hard so probably take a while to reach peak fitness & focus on the job to the best of their ability.
