Brisbane weather: Single-digit minimum temps for rest of week

It might be back to blue skies for South East Queensland, but the region is facing a drop in the mercury to end the week.

South east Queensland and north east New South Wales cop heavy rain

It’s back to blue skies for South East Queensland, but regional farmers are thrilled with the pre-winter downpour after western areas recorded around 60mm in unseasonal rain

The start of 2023 had brought below-average rainfall for the Lockyer Valley region, leaving conditions dry and landowners nervous.

Gatton farmers Brenton and Phoebe Neuendorf said they were happy with the recent rainfall.

“We have had about two inches of rainfall over the last two days, it’s definitely not normal for this time of year for where we are,” Mrs Neuendorf said.

“The kids are definitely enjoying it, they love it when they can jump in the puddles.”

The highest rainfall recorded was in Loder Creek on the Gold Coast with 168mm, while Brisbane recorded 61mm, the heaviest daily rainfall total sine May last year.

A weather bureau meteorologist said: “The recent rain has been caused by a trough of low pressure that has headed down the south east coast over night particularly on the Gold Coast.”

The Lockyer Valley, like much of the southeast, is forecast to see clear and sunny skies for the remainder of the week, with brisk minimum temperatures and a chance of frost.

Brisbane will also shiver through single-digit minimum temperatures, with a low of 8C forecast for Thursday and 6C for Friday.

“Heading into the next few days it should be drier but cooler due to a southerly air flow,” the meteorologist said.

“There is a change of fog and definitely cooler, brighter mornings however not as significant as what we had last week.

“There is a chance of frost especially in the Darling Downs which will see mostly cools mornings, particularly for Thursday and Friday.”
