A Tinder profile purporting to be Michael Slater has emerged, with the disgraced cricketer’s love style listed as “touch” and his height as 178cm, despite being 173cm on his Wikipedia page.

The profile, which surfaces just weeks after he was convicted of serious domestic violence related charges, includes pictures of Slater titled MJ, and states “looking for short-term, open to long” (term relationships).

“Imagine if it just works. Face-to-face I promise, the night is ours!” the profile says.

Just weeks after a court heard he was an alcoholic, the profile which has close-up selfie-styled pictures says he drinks “socially on weekends”.

The law firm representing Slater declined to comment about the profile or its authenticity on Tuesday when contacted.

The new profile follows Slater receiving a four-year suspended jail sentence in April for domestic violence offences on the Sunshine Coast, pleading guilty to two counts of common assault, two of strangulation, one of unlawful stalking, assault occasioning bodily harm and burglar by break at night.

The court was told at his sentencing that Slater stalked a woman over a period spanning four months who he had been previously involved with intimately following the end of their relationship.

The woman went to his Noosaville home in December 2023 where they drank before Slater became aggressive and accused her of being with other men.

He grabbed the woman around the throat and choked her as well as striking her to the left side of her face.

She had bruises top her neck and a black eye after the incident.

On a second occasion he threatened the woman with a vodka bottle and lifted her off the ground, while also strangling her.

Slater then harassed the woman on several occasions, which included texts and voicemails and Slater turning up to her home, banging on her window before smashing it to get inside.

The court heard Slater had struggled with alcoholism since his marriage breakdown in 2017.

Slater, a former test cricket star who played for Australia who went on to be a successful cricket commentator, spent 375 days in custody after the offences before he received the suspended jail term.

The Queensland Law Reform Commission previously recommended that a domestic violence disclosure scheme not be introduced after widespread consultation with the sector.

Reasons for not recommending one included it would require substantial funding, potentially taking it away from frontline services, and that a scheme would not in itself lead to an increase in a person’s safety.

Speaking generally about using dating apps after domestic violence related criminal

convictions, high-profile solicitor Bill Potts said Slater was free to use the app however many would learn of his history.

“Discretion is the better part of valour as the wise say,” Mr Potts said.

“Whilst Mr Slater is legally free to exercise his freedom of speech and find true love on the internet I suspect his notoriety will follow him around like a fart in a virtual bottle.

“The trouble with the internet is that all sorts of trolls squeeze out a kind of life whilst hiding behind the anonymity and heavily edited self-descriptions and very old photos.

“If Mr Slater advertises his criminal convictions in his list of accomplishments I can’t imagine he’d get too many takers but on Tinder truth is always the first casualty.”
