The family of Doreen Langham, a victim of domestic and family violence who tragically died in an alleged murder-suicide earlier this year have spoken with media for the first time.
Ms Langham died in a house fire at her Browns Plains home in February allegedly at the hands of her ex-partner despite doing everything she could to prevent it, even calling the police just hours before her death.
Ms Langham’s daughter Shayne Probert believes that while she may not have the answers, the system is broken.
“I don’t know what the answer is to fix the broken system, but something has to change,” Ms Probert told 7News.
“I just get the sense that she’s just another number, but she’s not … that’s my mum”, she said.
Six months after Ms langham’s death, her family are still awaiting the findings of the coroner’s report.
Inquest into DV death of Doreen Langham puts police actions under microscope
Queensland Police have since established a permanent command to deal with domestic and family violence.
In the wake of Ms Langham’s death, Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski lead a review into the police response after Doreen’s repeated calls for help.
“I don’t know what more Doreen could have done. I don’t know”, Mr Gollschewski said.
