A Queensland regional council has revealed its pick for the organisation’s top job, along with the role’s substantial pay packet.
The Sunshine Coast Council announced last week John Baker had been appointed as chief executive officer, following the resignation of Emma Thomas earlier this year.
Mr Baker, who currently works as the CEO at the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, is set to begin his new role in mid-December.
The top job at the council comes with a remuneration package of $550,000 a year, including superannuation and a car allowance.
Mr Baker, who was selected from a pool of 138 applicants, said he was looking forward to working with staff at the council and the wider community.
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Sunshine Coast Council and to have the opportunity to serve such a dynamic and magical place,” Mr Baker said.
“The Sunshine Coast’s unique blend of natural beauty and thriving communities makes it an exceptional place to live and work.
“I look forward to working with the council, staff and community to continue building on this wonderful region’s success.”
Acting CEO Debra Robinson will continue in the role until Mr Baker starts.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said Mr Baker had a “solid track record” in financial and stakeholder management.
“His commitment to delivering community-centred outcomes, while appreciating the importance of sustainability and liveability, was valued,” Ms Natoli said.
“Mr Baker’s dedication to his community aligns with council’s priorities.”
Mr Baker has been appointed for a term of five years.
