A popular Gold Coast surfer will be farewelled with a traditional paddle-out this weekend after tragically taking his own life.
Tugun man Jeffy Norris, 38, was reported missing last month, sparking a large-scale police search.
Friends found his body near the Queensland-NSW border a couple of days later in what police deemed a non-suspicious death.
Mr Norris went missing just two weeks after he made an emotional social media post following the death of his mother.
He left behind a partner, Brooke Stone, and young son Lucky.
“Forever the three of us,” a shattered Ms Stone posted on Facebook beneath a touching photo of her, Mr Norris and Lucky together on the beach.
“RIP to our hero, the best dad and partner in the world. He would of done anything for us. I’m so heartbroken, we love you Jeff!”
Mr Norris was well-known and much-loved on the southern Gold Coast where he went to Palm Beach-Currumbin State High and was a popular member of Palm Beach Boardriders Club.
Tributes flowed on social media, with friends describing him as “a beautiful soul” and “an amazing person”.
A funeral is being held for Mr Norris at Tugun’s Tom Atkins Hall at 11am on Saturday, to be followed on Sunday by a 9am paddle-out at Currumbin Alley, with hundreds expected to take part.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds for Mr Norris’ partner and child and to help pay for his funeral, and has raised more than $42,000 of its $100,000 target.
